Syngenta Unveils Virestina herbicide

Syngenta has announced the global launch of Virestina, a herbicide developed to control resistant grass weeds in soybean and cotton crops. Metroproxybicyclone is the active ingredient in this herbicide. One of the first countries to grant registration approval to this herbicide is Argentina. There are plans to introduce this herbicide in countries like Australia, Brazil, United States and Cananda.

Crop production is continuously affected by these resistant weeds as these weeds survive most of the herbicide applications and compete with the crops for essential nutrients, water and sunlight.
These weeds are also hosts for multiple pests and diseases. Multiple countries have reported that these weeds are herbicide resistant and these grass weeds are forming a significant share of affected species.

Veristina has been designed to control these grass weeds that are resistant to most herbicides like glyphosate and clethodim. It can be easily applied over crops like cotton and soybean as this herbicide breaks down in the soil and supports crop rotation. The need for repeated field operations is also reduced by using this herbicide.

This product was developed in Syngenta’s research facility in the United Kingdom using scientific approaches. The development of this herbicide has taken a decade to be completed.

The global head of crop protection marketing at Syngenta Loana Tudor said “At Syngenta, our innovations have an important role in enabling growers to address some of the biggest challenges they face”. This herbicide indicates Syngenta’s ability to foresee a challenge a decade earlier.
