New Delhi: The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the commercial export of 2 metric tonnes (MT) of premium Amrapali mangoes from the state's Gumla and Deoghar districts to Dubai.
The consignment, which was shipped on July 3, was exported by Fair Exports (India) Pvt. Ltd. and will be retailed through Lulu stores across Dubai. The shipment marks an important step in integrating women-led farmer collectives from tribal regions into international markets.
The mangoes were sourced from three women-led Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) supported by Palash, the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society (JSLPS). One metric tonne was procured from MVM Baghima Palkot Producer Company Limited and Raidih Agri Producer Company Limited in Gumla district, while the remaining quantity came from Mohanpur Ajeevika Mahila Kisan Producer Society in Deoghar district.
The orchards supplying the export consignment were developed by tribal women farmers under the Birsa Harit Gram Yojana, a state initiative implemented in convergence with MGNREGA.
According to APEDA, the export has resulted in a major income boost for participating farmers, with members of the women-led FPCs receiving nearly 180 percent higher returns than the prices available in local markets. The three producer companies together have more than 1,500 shareholders each and collectively represent over 50,000 farmers, expanding the economic impact of the initiative across a large rural community.
The export consignment was flagged off by district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Development Commissioner, in the presence of representatives from APEDA, JSLPS and other government departments. The event highlighted the collaboration between central and state agencies, district administrations, exporters and farmer organisations in promoting agricultural exports from aspirational districts.
APEDA has been working to prepare farmer collectives for export markets through training, quality improvement and market access initiatives. In May this year, it organised a capacity-building programme in Palkot, Gumla, where members and directors of eight Farmer Producer Companies received training on international quality standards, post-harvest handling and export procedures. Officials from the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, District Industries Centre (DIC), JSLPS and other departments also participated.
Earlier, on September 19, 2025, APEDA's Regional Office in Kolkata conducted an export-oriented capacity development programme in Baswariya village of Deoghar district. The programme brought together around 105 participants, including women entrepreneurs, Self-Help Groups, Farmer Producer Organisations and officials from the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department and NABARD. The sessions focused on export opportunities, APEDA's financial assistance schemes, export documentation and institutional support available for women entrepreneurs.
The successful shipment underscores the growing export potential of Jharkhand's fruit sector, particularly Amrapali mangoes, while demonstrating how targeted capacity building and stronger market linkages can help women-led farmer organisations access premium international markets and secure better prices for their produce.
