Farming in India is no longer limited to traditional agricultural practices. Today’s farmers are adopting innovation, technology and smart techniques to transform agriculture into a sustainable and profitable business. In Uttar Pradesh Hapur’s Tigri village this change is clearly visible and there are vast stretches of land which are covered with modern polyhouses where flowers are grown in a controlled environment. What was once a traditional farmland has evolved in to a high-tech setup where temperature, humidity and growth conditions are carefully managed to ensure a good quality of produce.
Sardhanand Pradhan, a farmer from this village has emerged as a leading example of this shift. In 2000 he started his journey with just 500 square-metre polyhouse and now he has expanded his operations to 14 acres equipped with advanced technology. Today he cultivates flowers like roses and lilies and supplies them across the country. Explaining the importance of these techniques Pradhan said “Without the poly sheet it is not possible to achieve such high-quality flowers. Proper maintenance is essential. We cover the buds with caps and the more the petals develop the better price they fetch in the market. Compared to traditional open field farming this method gives us nearly ten times more profit”
Farmers like Pradhan are increasingly adopting drip irrigation, weather monitoring systems and smart management practises for their farms. These advancements have not only made agriculture more productive but also more predictable and efficient.
