Nitin Gadkari calls on India’s agricultural community to embrace clean energy, technology, and innovation to boost rural incomes and sustainability.

Road transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday during the conclusion of the ‘Unnat Krishi Mahotsav’ said farmers must move from their traditional role as food producers to become providers of energy, food and hydrogen. Gadkari emphasized that this evolution is crucial as it will help in diversifying rural income and reduce India’s dependence on imports.

Gadkari said that agricultural residues, ethanol, biomass, compressed natural gas and hydrogen are untapped sources of income for the agricultural community in India. “Knowledge is the greatest power, and transforming this knowledge into wealth is the most pressing need of the agricultural sector today” Gadkari told the hundreds of farmers present there at the event.

The Minister also said that Artificial intelligence, drones and nano urea were already reshaping the agricultural sector but to reduce costs and enhance productivity farmers need to adopt and be familiar with modern technology.

Gadkari also mentioned the need for stronger post-harvest infrastructure, because surplus harvest without adequate cold storages and processing plants would reduce the market prices for farmers.
