India’s growing demand for edible oils has increased the need to raise domestic oilseed production and strengthen self-reliance in the sector. Against this backdrop, ICAR-IIOR is working on technologies that can move from research and development to wider farm-level adoption.
The institute has developed improved oilseed varieties and hybrids, biopolymer-enabled seed enhancement technologies and microbial biopesticide formulations.
The upcoming meet will provide a platform for ICAR-IIOR to showcase these technologies and discuss possible routes for their commercial deployment.
Representatives from seed companies, biopesticide and bio-input firms, technology licensees, agri-business companies, startups and entrepreneurs are expected to participate in the consultation.
Discussions will explore opportunities for technology transfer, licensing, public-private partnerships and large-scale deployment of the technologies developed by ICAR-IIOR.
The initiative is aimed at bringing research institutions and industry closer together so that promising oilseed technologies can be validated, commercialised and adopted at scale.
Stronger collaboration among researchers, businesses and other stakeholders could help accelerate the availability of new technologies to farmers while supporting the sustainable growth of India’s oilseed sector.
