New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has highlighted India’s growing success in integrating solar energy with agriculture, describing it as a model that could support food security efforts across Africa.
Sharing an article authored by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and International Solar Alliance Director General Ashish Khanna, the Prime Minister said solar energy is emerging as a game-changing force in agriculture and rural development. He noted that India’s experience in using clean energy solutions for farming offers valuable lessons for countries seeking to improve agricultural productivity while reducing dependence on conventional energy sources.
According to the Prime Minister, the adoption of solar-powered agricultural systems can help strengthen rural livelihoods, improve access to reliable energy, and contribute to long-term food security. He said the model has the potential to empower farming communities and create shared economic benefits beyond India’s borders.
Modi described the progress made in solar-powered agriculture as a matter of pride for India’s farmers, who are increasingly benefiting from renewable energy solutions that lower input costs and improve farm sustainability.
India has expanded the use of solar energy in agriculture through initiatives aimed at reducing farmers’ dependence on diesel and grid electricity while promoting clean and affordable power for irrigation and other farm operations. Programmes such as PM-KUSUM have played a key role in supporting the transition toward renewable energy in the farm sector.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when global discussions on climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable food systems are gaining momentum, particularly in regions facing challenges related to energy access and food production. India’s solar-agriculture model is increasingly being viewed as a scalable approach that can support both environmental sustainability and agricultural growth.
