Mumbai: Mahindra Tractors is strengthening its presence in India’s compact tractor segment with its OJA range, targeting the growing mechanisation needs of horticulture and other specialised farming applications.
The OJA compact tractor platform has completed three years in the Indian market and is being positioned for crops and farming systems where mobility, power and compatibility with different implements are critical.
India’s tractor market crossed the 1 million-unit mark in FY2025-26, with industry sales increasing 24% year-on-year. The compact 21–30 HP tractor segment recorded even stronger growth of 45%, highlighting rising demand for smaller and more specialised farm machinery.
Mahindra is positioning the OJA range to address this demand, particularly among farmers involved in horticulture, vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and row-crop cultivation.
The range currently covers multiple models in the 21–30 HP category, offering farmers options based on their power and application requirements.
India’s expanding horticulture sector is creating a larger market for crop-specific farm machinery. Horticulture production is projected to exceed 450 million tonnes by FY2030-31, compared with around 378 million tonnes in FY2025-26.
As production expands, farmers are increasingly looking for machinery suited to specialised operations. Narrow planting rows, orchards, vineyards and restricted working spaces can make the use of conventional tractors difficult in some applications.
The OJA range is designed with these requirements in mind. Four-wheel drive is offered as a standard feature, while the compact design is aimed at improving tractor movement in specialised farming environments.
According to Mahindra, OJA tractors are intended for applications including vineyards, orchards, sugarcane and row-crop farming.
The focus is on providing farmers with machines that can work effectively in tighter spaces while supporting a range of agricultural implements.
Harsh Rai, CEO, Mahindra Tractors, said the company's focus is on developing specialised, technology-led solutions as horticulture and other high-value farming segments continue to expand.
Parikshit Ghosh, Head, Marketing & National Business Operations, Mahindra Tractors, said the OJA range is available across multiple models and power points, with the company focusing on application-specific mechanisation solutions.
The OJA platform was jointly developed by engineering teams at Mahindra Research Valley in India and Mitsubishi Mahindra Agricultural Machinery in Japan.
The development reflects the growing importance of compact and application-specific tractors as Indian agriculture moves towards greater mechanisation across horticulture and other high-value crops.
For farmers, the growth of this segment could mean greater access to machinery designed not just around horsepower, but around the specific conditions and operations of modern farming.
