    Drought-resistant and Genome-Edited rice strain to be available for field evaluation by Kharif 2024, informs Agriculture Minister

     A drought-resistant and Genome-Edited rice strain will be available for field evaluation by Kharif 2024 and for general cultivation during 2026.
    Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar has informed this to the Lok Sabha in a written reply today. He informed that the Indian Agriculture Research Institute has developed the drought-resistant and salinity-tolerant rice strain by genome-editing technology and a budget of 98.05 lakh rupees has been sanctioned for the same.
    He further informed that the Ministry of Environment and Department of Biotechnology have given the relevant sanctions for the filed evaluation during the Kharif 2024.
